Walking

Walking Activities

To enhance your Scottish Country Dancing holiday, and to complement the social and friendly group dancing programme, we are unique in offering you the choice of taking part in pleasant guided local walks.

Walks are organised and led by our experienced Walking Leaders who can offer a variety of interesting and rewarding routes.

These can vary from a gentle stroll to exploring a little more of the wider locality.

Walking is planned around the evening Dancing Program and the Dance Workshops which take place each morning.

Each afternoon you have the choice of joining our local guided walk.

If you do not wish to join a group walk, then our Leaders can offer you useful advice on the local area and its attractions, so that you are free to make the most of your time exploring things at your own leisure.

short and longer walks from the hotel

To give you a taster of what to expect on our afternoon guided walks, here are some examples of walks previously enjoyed by our guests...

Ilkley Moor:

We walk from the hotel down to Ilkley and slowly climb the path beside Hebers Ghyll, a beautiful walk devised in Victorian times, up to the ancient Swastika Stone, one of many carved stones on Ilkley Moor. We then continue along the moor edge with wonderful views of Beamsley Beacon and the Lower Wharfe valley and return past the tarn to the hotel.

5 miles and 300ft

The Great Orme:

We walk from the hotel on the promenade, on to the panorama walk leading to the Monks Path, and ascend this to the shoulder and then to the summit cafe and Great Orme tramway station. After a welcome drink we descend gradually, with wonderful views over Llandudno and through the Happy Valley Gardens back to the hotel.

5 miles and 650ft ascent

The Northern Malverns:

We walk from hotel up to North Hill, the most northerly peak  on the Malvern Hills, continuing past the Worcestershire Beacon (the highest point at 1400 ft), down past St Ann’s Well and back to the hotel.

5 miles with some steep ascent in places.
